Late 19th c. Blick typewriter #7 with original wooden case and mounted on a wooden base. The number 7 model was manufactured from 1897 to 1916 by the Blickensderfer Typewriter Company based in Stamford, Connecticut, USA. This particular example was assembled in the U.K. The original plaque reads "Blick #7, 77 Queen Victoria St., London"

  • MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES Steel, Metal, Chrome, Wood, Leather.
  • CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Leather strap broken on one side. In generally good condition. The space bar works but doesn't advance the carriage. All keys work properly and rotate the key roll. Unsure if the bell works. Four keys' faces are faded. A general service is recommended.

HISTORY

George C. Blickensderfer founded the Blickensderfer Manufacturing Company in Stamford, Connecticut in 1893. The Blickensderfer Manufacturing Company produced nine different models of typewriters, including an electric typewriter, and operated until George Blickenderfer’s death in 1917. The company was reformed as the Blick Typewriter Company for a few years before the Blickensderfer patents and designs were sold and manufactured by a variety of different companies.
