An impressive, heavy solid bronze mid-century ashtray designed by California artist and sculptor Wah Ming Chang. Known later in life for his sculptures and the props he designed for Stars Trek, The Original Series.

Stamped “Bronze Originals of California” and “Design Wah Ming Chang”. The bronze is a beautifully patinated, but could be polished to a brilliant, shiny gold color if desired.

HISTORY

Wah Ming Chang (August 2, 1917 – December 22, 2003) was an American designer, sculpture and artist. With the encouragement of his adoptive father, James Blading Sloan, he began exhibiting his prints and watercolors at the age of seven to highly favorable reviews. Chang worked with Sloan on several theater productions and in the 1940s, they briefly created their own studio to produce films.
