Designed as part of the iconic Aluminum Group, the Eames Soft Pad Lounge Chair has a high back, a relaxed pitch, and comes with its own pillowy headrest. The swivel lounge chairs are in Ivory leather with polished five point aluminum base and gliders. Plush, two-inch thick cushions. Original Herman Miller label on each chair.

• MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES Leather, Polished die-cast aluminum frame and base, foam cushions with polyester fiber batting.
  
• CONDITION Chair #1: Good. Minor wear on all corners of leather. Minor wear throughout. Top back rest has small dark spots on the right and back. Small pen mark under where the back rest and seat merge. Seat has dark line and small abrasion but not broken. Scuffs to the arms and base. Chair #2: Good. General wear to the leather. Small mark on seat. Small dent in leather on the back. Minor wear on the armrest and base.

HISTORY

The Eames Aluminum Group, introduced in 1958, was named for the aluminum side ribs, which hold the one-piece seat-back suspension taught to create a body-welcoming "sitting pocket." In 1969, Charles and Ray added individually upholstered, two-inch-thick cushions to enhance the comfort.

Designed and developed in 1968 and released in 1969, the Soft Pad Lounger has been in continuous production ever since. Changes to the series would take place in 1985 when the 4 star base was changed to that with 5 legs. Since 2011, Herman Miller reverted the lounge Soft Pad back to the four star base that ended in 1985.
