An original highly collectible piece of early 20th-century industrial Americana. Crafted from solid quarter-sawn oak, this professional architect's or draftsman's desk combines rugged utility with exceptional craftsmanship.
The standout feature is the original heavy-duty, cast-iron swing-out stool and footrest. It effortlessly pivots out from the central seating bay. The desk offers a tilt up top covered with battleship linoleum with multiple height settings. Incredible storage, flanked by eight banks of vertical blueprint slot cabinets and eight standard utility drawers fitted with their original period-correct bronze plated cup pulls and bronze plate key holes and finger pulls. Two pull out trays with bronze knobs. 
It's finished back allows it to float beautifully in the center of a home office, design studio, or living space. A perfect blend of warmth and industrial edge.

  • CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Refinished with shellac and oil and paste wax. Missing on key hole. Tray pulls replaced with knobs. Missing small portion of top on one vertical cabinet drawer.

HISTORY

"Battleship linoleum" is an exceptionally thick, heavy-duty grade of true linoleum. The nickname stems from the early 20th century, when the U.S. Navy used it as a standard deck covering inside warships and submarines due to its incredible durability and water resistance.
