HISTORY

Hunt cups or stirrups cups are a traditional vessel for a farewell drink offered to riders on horseback, with origins possibly dating back to the Middle Ages, although they became a prominent symbol of 18th and 19th-century fox hunting. Often designed in the shape of animal heads, these cups were made from silver or ceramics and were meant to be drunk quickly from while the rider's feet remained in the stirrups.
