ABOUT

Mid-century Model FD 451 daybed with articulating armrests operated by two brass buttons on each side of the backrest. The daybed can be customized making it ideal for lounging, reading, or sleeping. When fully extended, the daybed measures 85.75 in width.

Solid teak base with elegant, curved cross braces on the bottom, brass brackets and woven cane armrests. The seat and backs cushions were reupholstered in a wool fabric in 2020 with top panel of the seat reupholstered in August 2024 with new fabric.

  • CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor wear to frame. Minor scratches on top of one arm depicted in photos. Minor wear to bottom front. Fabric was reupholstered in 2020. Minor wear to fabric. No fading. Top panel of cushion replaced with new fabric August 2024.

HISTORY

Hvidt & Mølgaard was a Copenhagen-based, Danish design and architectural firm which existed from 1944 until 2009. Founded by Peter Hvidt (1916-1986) and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen (1907-1993), the company was a pioneering force in Danish furniture design and industrialized production in the 1950s, creating furniture that was easy to mass-produce and economic to transport.
