An original antique barber's shaving standing mirror with a japanned cast iron base and steel casters. The mirror tilts and the height is adjustable.

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES Copper Plate, Cast Iron.
- CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Mirror has a small area where there is damage to the silver backing. One leg has some damage to the cast iron underneath. The piece is structurally sound.

HISTORY
Japanning is a type of finish that originated as a European imitation of East Asian lacquer work. It was first used on furniture, but was later much used on small items in metal. The word originated in the 17th century.
