American Military Campaign Planning Globe c.1940

ABOUT

The Military Globe was used for campaign planning and became an important element of military academies. Composed of a spun metal blue orb with black slated land masses outlined in yellow. These globes were used by the military and NASA, in addition to serving as geographical learning tools for classrooms. They were intended to be written on using chalk. Presented as an exceptional geographical and military learning tool, it was simply designed and could be written on with chalk.

  • MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES Metal. 
  • CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Fading and loss of paint in some areas. The solid yellow on Asia is not original and was painted on some time in its life.

HISTORY

The Denoyer-Geppert Company was founded in 1916 by L. Philip Denoyer and Otto E. Geppert. In 1916 after both had careers working for Chicago mapmakers, they formed their own mapmaking business under their own names, with Denoyer as President and Geppert as Sales Manager and Secretary/Treasurer.
