This Indian Wars-era pouch is constructed of heavy black leather and features its original, Victorian, interlocking bronze "NY MA" monogram script plate affixed securely to the front flap. "Academy Cartridges" is stamped across the top.
These pouches were standard issue for various state militia units following the Civil War, most notably built on Frazier’s or McKenney patent designs of the 1870s. It retains its original bronze closure stud on the bottom and two bronze belt attachment buttons.
