HISTORY
The military routinely deployed these heavy-gauge, gasket-sealed steel drums to create a completely airtight and watertight micro-environment. Containers like this were built to the rugged 1957 Army-Navy (AN) engineering standard to ensure they were airtight, watertight, and could survive rough transit. Once the original military-contracted liquids or materials were emptied, industrial defense contractors commonly reused them to pack and ship high-value military gear securely.
