19th c. Lemaire Fabt Paris Expandable Leather Wrapped Binoculars c.1880
ABOUT
An antique pair of leather wrapped expandable binoculars with enamel over brass body. The telescoping cylinders that pull out over the large objective lenses are integrated sunshades (often called sun shields or sun hoods) that keeps light rain or blowing sea spray off the glass during field or maritime use.
"LeMaire Fabt Paris" is embossed on one eyepiece and "The Harvey & Lewis Co." on the other. Engraved "TM Lawrence" on the barrel. The lens expand out to sharpen the view. The binoculars are in good working condition with good binocular viewing.

Harvey & Lewis Opticians is a historic family-owned optical business founded in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1890. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, it was standard practice for prestigious department stores and high-end opticians to import premium French optics and engrave their own company name onto them for retail.
