HISTORY
Formed in San Francisco in 1965, Big Brother and the Holding Company became a cornerstone of psychedelic rock and gained fame as Janis Joplin’s backing band. They are best known for their raw, improvisational style and the landmark 1968 album Cheap Thrills—featuring "Piece of My Heart"—before Joplin left for a solo career.
