HISTORY

Calendar posters were the first mainstream Chinese commercial posters. The style in which they were developed had much to do with China opening its doors to the West.
The calendar posters communicated changes in urban life. women's status, social unrest and the latest "modern" conveniences of the times, all of which were influenced by the West. After World War ll, the calendar posters went into decline and never fully recovered. Today, they no longer appear as commercial art, but are valued for their contribution in expressing the desires of a generation.
