Mid-century Multi-gemstone and Brass Nepalese Diety c.1960
This is an original filigree brass Avalokiteshvara figure from Nepal. The piece is ornamented with large pieces of turquoise and coral gemstones. The figure has four outstretched arms holding spears and other items in them. This piece has retained its original finish. Several stones are missing.

Avalokiteshvara is the earthly manifestation of the self-born eternal Buddha Amitabha, whose figure is represented in his headdress, and he guards the world in the interval between the departure of the historical Buddha, Gautama, and the appearance of the future buddha, Maitreya.
