1930s Thonet Bentwood Bakelite Dining Chairs



A set of original Thonet bentwood armchairs with Bakelite seats and backrest. Sold as a set of four only. "Thonet" stamp on both the seats and backrests.

  • MATERIALS & TECHNIQUES Bakelite, Bentwood Beech.
  • CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. All very sturdy. Each chair has a chip in the Bakelite on the side of the seat denoted in photos.
  • DIMENSIONS H 31.5 in. x W 17 in. x D 23 in. Seat Height 18 in.


Michael Thonet (2 July 1796 – 3 March 1871) was a German-Austrian cabinet maker known for the invention of bentwood furniture.
