19th c. Antique Mahogany Writing Slope Desk c.1850

An antique mahogany writing slope desk with brass carrying handles, corners and key hole. The box flips open to reveal a green felt writing space and a pair original glass ink well and glass sand shaker. The pen well is fitted with a bone handle, allowing it to be lifted and smalls to be stored below. Both tops of the slope fold back to reveal a paper storage compartment. An original manufacturer label is located under one top and an original business card is in the drawer.

One brass handle acts as the draw for a small drawer. This drawer is locked from within the box, opened by first unlocking and opening the writing box, then withdrawing a solid brass pin from the edge to release the small drawer.

  • CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Felt may or may not be original. One inner panel has a split in the wood but is structurally sound.
